The U.S. Department of Defense is the largest user of information technology in the federal government — by far — having spent $33 billion this fiscal year, according to U.S. Office of Management and Budget’s 2010 IT Forecast. The next three largest spenders on IT in the government are the Department of Homeland Security ($6.2 billion) and the Department of Health and Human Services (almost $6 billion). Overall, the federal government spends more than $74 billion in information technology.
