Elearning! Summits (virtual conferences) often provide actionable tips for e-learning professionals in their popular “Forums” section. During a recent Summit, the question was posed, “What tips would you give to someone new in e-learning?” Here are pertinent answers we received from attendees:
>> Plan and set up infrastructure (software, learning management system, speaker) before starting the project.
>> Sound instructional design is important regardless of the tool or technology. Posting information online is not e-learning!
>> Start small and simple. You don’t need to sink lots of money and resources into a gourmet e-learning course if what your learners need is straightforward training on key knowledge and skills to do their jobs.
>> Use a simple development tool.
>> Know your audience. Make the content relevant. Make sure any cool tool/online strategy you use is free of technical glitches that will frustrate users.
>> Use one project as a pilot and test with a peer group to find bugs, get feedback and set standards.
>> For worldwide use, include cultural differences in your strategies.
Our next Summit is scheduled for Nov. 5. For more details, go to the Website www.2elearning.com/events/elearning-summit.html.
