WEB 2.0: Collaboration Suite Opens to 3rd Parties

Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) 6.0 is the most significant upgrade to the Zimbra software to date by extending the open Zimlet platform to third-party developers and improving enterprise collaboration through a host of new community driven features such as expanded calendaring, sharing and enhanced mobile support.

As part of ZCS 6.0, Zimbra will further open its innovative application platform, including the Zimlet and Mobile application programming interfaces (APIs), to provide maximum flexibility to Zimbra’s community of customers, partners, and developers.

With the new Zimlet platform, a Zimbra customer or partner can build out fully featured applications directly within the collaboration suite, which pulls in information from third-party sources. In addition, a new social media Zimlet enables users to read and post tweets to Twitter, manage updates from Facebook, and Digg directly from within their ZCS inbox.
